Objective of Central Scholarship Scheme 2024 for College/University Students: Since 2008, the Scheme has been providing financial support to meritorious deserving students with family incomes below Rs.4.5 lakh per annum, aiding them in covering part of their daily expenses during higher education. The annual target of this central scheme is 82,000 scholarships (41,000 for boys and 41,000 for girls), allocated among State Education Boards based on each state’s population in the 18-25 age group.

Eligibility: Eligible applicants for this scholarship are those who rank above the 80th percentile in their respective streams in class XII board exams, pursuing regular courses without availing any other scholarships. The scholarship amounts to Rs. 12,000 per annum for the first three years and Rs. 20,000 per annum for the fourth and fifth years.

Since January 1, 2013, the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students has been integrated into the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring direct disbursement into recipients’ savings bank accounts through the PFMS gateway.

From August 1, 2015, the scheme has been accessible through the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in), allowing students to access guidelines and apply online exclusively through this platform.

Objective: The Special National Scholarship Scheme for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh aims to foster educational opportunities for youth from these regions by encouraging them to explore educational institutions outside their state. This initiative facilitates interaction with their counterparts from across the country. 

Number of Scholarships: The scheme intends to award 5000 fresh scholarships annually. There’s flexibility for slots interchangeability between Medical and Engineering streams, contingent upon any surplus funds from students opting for General Degree courses.

Coverage: Scholarships cover tuition fees and maintenance allowances. The rate for tuition fees is Rs.30,000 per annum for General Degree courses, Rs.1.25 lakh per annum for Engineering courses, and Rs.3.0 lakh per annum for medical studies. Additionally, a fixed maintenance allowance of Rs.1.0 lakh per annum is granted to all students under this scheme. An Inter-Ministerial Committee is responsible for overseeing the implementation and monitoring of the scheme.

Eligibility Criteria: Students from Jammu & Kashmir & Ladakh with a family income below Rs. 8.0 lakh per annum, who have completed class XII within these territories and gained admission to institutions approved under Section 12B of the UGC Act, or recognized by AICTE or relevant regulatory bodies outside the UTs, are eligible to apply for this scheme. Applications must be submitted online via the AICTE web portal at – aicte-jk-scholarship-gov.in.

Transaction: The scholarship for academic fees is disbursed directly to the institution either based on the claim or the rate set by the respective State Fee Regulatory Authority, whichever is lower and within the overall course ceiling. If the institution’s fee exceeds this ceiling, AICTE/DHE will not reimburse the additional amount.

Maintenance allowance scholarships are transferred directly into students’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode, utilizing the PFMS gateway.
