Why did Tanishka get first rank in NEET Result 2022?

The result of NEET exam 2022 has been announced. Four NTA NEET candidates topped this year with the same percentile score of 99.9997733. However, the NTA did not give them the joint first rank as given in 2021. Instead, NTA implemented its new tie-breaker policy to allow Tanishka from Haryana to rank first in the NEET UG exam 2022. Under the new tiebreaker policy, Tanishka was followed by Vatsa Ashish Batra of Delhi at number two, Hrishikesh Nagabhushan Gangule at number three and Rucha Pawashe of Karnataka at number four. Why did Tanishka get the first position in the NEET 2022 result? You need to know the “NEET New Tie-breaker Policy” for understanding the NEET toppers 2022 in better way.

NTA NEET 2022 Tie-Breaker Policy

The NTA has made certain changes in the NEET 2022 tie-breaker policy for preparing NEET toppers 2022 list. It kept the 3 previous factors but introduced 6 more factors and all these 9 factors will be applicable when there is tie-break between two or more candidates. Thus, In case of two or more candidates securing the same marks and percentile in NEET UG result 2022, the tie-breaking rule based on 9 factors will be applicable. These factors are:

  1. If two or more NEET candidates have secured the same marks, then their Biology (Botany and Zoology) marks will be looked at first. The one who will get more marks in this section will get higher rank.
  2. Even after this, if the marks are equal, priority will be given to the candidate who will have more marks in Chemistry.
  3. After Chemistry, the candidate with higher marks in Physics will get a higher rank.
  4. Even after getting the same marks, he/she will get a higher rank who has given fewer wrong answers or more correct answers than the others in the examination.
  5. Then, preference will be given to those candidates who have given less wrong and more correct answers in Biology (Botany and Zoology).
  6. After this, candidate with fewer wrong answers and more correct answers in Chemistry will be given preference.
  7. Then, a candidate who gives less wrong and more correct answers in Physics will get a higher rank.
  8. Even after this, if the marks remain the same, then the student who is older as per date of birth will be given a higher rank.
  9. Even after this, their rank will be decided on the application number (in increasing order) in the end if there is the same number of marks.

These 9 factors were used in deciding the first rank in the NEET toppers 2022 list and so Tanishka Yadav of Haryana got the AIR first rank in the NEET exam result 2022.

NEET Tie-Breaker Policy 2021

Until 2021, the NTA used the three NEET tie-breaking formulas in order of preference to avoid a ranking tie between two candidates. The previous year NEET 2021 tie-breaking rules were based on the following factors as given below:

  1. Those NEET candidates securing higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the exam will get higher rank.
  2. Then candidates securing higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry in the NEET exam will be given higher AIR rank.
  3. Even after this, if their marks remain the same candidates with lesser ratio of number of wrong answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the exam will be assigned higher AIR rank in the NEET result.
